Eton Travel Update: Thursday 31st July 14:00 GMT 

Passengers face lengthy delays and flying without their bags amid staff shortages among baggage handlers at Gatwick airport. Travelers flying from Gatwick this weekend can expect chaotic scenes because Swissport, the baggage handling firm, does not have enough workers to load and unload planes. Two airlines warned that difficulties at the airport could worsen during the next four months because airlines are locked in contracts with Swissport.

Baggage handlers at Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma de Mallorca, Spain,  have announced strike action on 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 , 15, 16 and 17th of August.

US and European airlines suspended flights to Israel's Ben Gurion airport after a rocket landed one mile (1.6km) away. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said it "strongly recommends" that airlines should avoid operating to and from Tel Aviv.

Lufthansa - which includes Swiss, Germanwings and Austrian Airlines - said it had decided to suspend flights to Israel for two days. KLM and Air France also said they had suspended flights ahead of the EASA's advisory. EasyJet, Air Canada, and Alitalia said they had cancelled flights.

Thai Airways' and Turkish Airlines' planned move into Terminal 2 on 2nd July has been postponed until later in the summer. Until the new move date, Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines flights will depart as normal from Heathrow Terminal 3.

Customers flying to the United States with any electronic or battery powered devices (mobile telephones, tablets, e-books, laptops, etc.) may be required to turn on their device in front of security teams and/or demonstrate the item’s functionality. If, when asked to do so, customers are not able to demonstrate that their device has power, they will not be allowed to fly on their planned service.
