AS YOU GET READY TO HIT THE ROAD, BRUSH UP ON OUR GENERAL SAFETY PRO TIPS TO
HELP KEEP YOU SAFE AS YOU MOVE ABOUT

PLANNING YOUR TRIP: Always do your homework before you head out on a trip. Reconnaissance can be your best friend and keep you up to date on the latest happenings like travel restrictions, quarantine mandates, personal protective equipment  requirements, service disruptions, and more

CHOOSING AN AIRLINE: When choosing an airline, it may also be worth comparing the safety precautions that airlines have in place. Do they require personal protective equipment? Do they prevent flights from being booked to full capacity? Do they thoroughly sanitize the aircraft after every trip? These little changes can make a big difference when it comes to your safety. After you’ve decided on an airline, be sure to have your own personal protective equipment and disinfectant on hand to help keep your flight as sanitary as possible.

OPTING FOR GROUND TRANSPORTATION:
If you’re uneasy about air transportation, ground transportation can be a great alternative. By comparison, it can dramatically limit your exposure and person-to-person contact, especially if you travel in your own vehicle. If you use a car rental service, be sure to disinfect the vehicle as best as possible, paying close attention to all high-touch areas like the steering wheel, gear shift, console buttons, seats, and more. If you opt for bus and rail transit, be mindful that they are still considered public transportation and may require extra levels of caution.

CONSIDERING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Public transportation can be an affordable and efficient means to get around. However, traveling with high volumes of other passengers will likely increase your risk of exposure. Before boarding public transportation, be sure that your personal protective equipment is out and ready for use. You may also wish to employ your own disinfectant to sanitize high-touch areas like
seats, hand rails, and tray tables. Additionally, opt for the shortest and most direct route to limit your time onboard. Be familiar with your route to avoid wrong turns or mistakes that may increase your travel time.

BOOKING HOTEL: When selecting lodging options, it may be in your best interest. To choose one that has increased their sanitation and safety protocols. Look for options that provide routine and thorough cleansing around the clock. Additional features that may benefit you include mobile check-in/check-out and touchless room entry to limit your person-to-person contact.

READY FOR TAKOFF?  BEFORE YOU HIT THE TARMAC, MAKE SURE TO REVIEW THESE TIPS DESIGNED TO HELP KEEP YOU SAFE WHILE AT THE AIRPORT

BEFORE YOU BOARD

BEFORE YOU LEAVE: Try to plan your transit time to avoid long wait times in the airport. More time spent there means more opportunities for exposure.  Make sure you have masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, or other personal protective supplies to last the duration of you trip.

ON YOUR WAY TO THE AIRPORT: Try driving your own vehicle or have a friend or family drop you off at the airport to avoid public transportation or rideshares.

CHECKING-IN: Take advantage of mobile check-in ahead of your arrival.  If you can’t, aim to check-in via a self-service kiosk to avoid person-to-person contact.  Be sure to keep your disinfectant handy to wipe down touchscreens or buttons.

HANDLING YOUR LUGGAGE: If you are able, sanitize your luggage before entering the airport as a courtesy to luggage handlers.  Try to keep items needed during your trip close to your person to avoid opening and closing your bags once inside.

CONSUMING FOOD AND DRINK: Try to avoid eating or drinking copious amounts while in the airport.  If you require food, aim to bring your own from home.  If not, look for sealed or prepacked options, avoiding self-serve, open air or buffet selections.  Use prepacked cutlery and disinfect table, chairs and hands before eating. Be sure to maintain a safe distance from other passengers.  Additionally be mindful that many airlines have suspended on board food and beverage services so be sure to plan accordingly .

TAKING RESTROOM BREAKS: If feasible, avoid using public restrooms.  If you must, avoid high touch surfaces in the rest room as best you can.  Afterwards cleanse your hands thoroughly.

HEADING TO THE GATE: If you choose to sit at the gate, use disinfectant to sanitize your seat and maintain social distancing between you and other passengers.

BOARDING THE PLANE: If seats are available, maintain social distancing between you and other passengers.  Once seated, disinfect your seat, arm rests, tray table, and other high touch areas.  If you stow items in the overhead storage compartment, be sure to clean your hands after.

AFTER YOU LAND

DEBOARDING THE PLANE: Avoid clustering with other passengers while waiting to deboard the plane.  If you need to retrieve items from the overhead storage compartments, again be sure to clean your hands afterward.

GATHERING YOUR LUGGAGE: Maintain social distancing while you wait for your items.  Aim to disinfect them once they are retrieved.

EXITING THE AIRPORT: Avoid lingering in the airport.  You may choose to dispose and replace your personal protective equipment. Then head to your next destination.
